This project had me redesign a record album cover and label for a musician of our choice. I chose Jon Bellion's The Human Condition, a pop/R&B album. The genres led me in the direction of a blueish-purplish color scheme, and while the original album art used orange to show the highs of the human condition, I wanted to bring attention to the emotions and vulnerabilities that make us human - also represented in Jon's music. While the outer sleeve is undoubtably setting a moodier tone than the original artwork, the side labels are much brighter. They show a man adrift with a line but no landmarks underwater - but the brighter tones show a message of hope and reflect the song Maybe IDK... and it's in song follow-up: "But maybe that's alright."
In this project, I attempted to capture the memory of the feeling of a cool childhood night at home, when you're coming home from playing outside and it has been a good day and your family is waiting - I wanted to capture the nostalgia of that feeling almost more than the actual feeling, as it goes very well with the odd but homey sounds represented in the album.
